Celiac disease
Celiac disease is considered an autoimmune disease with the external trigger gluten. The immune reaction leads to a destruction of the villi in the small intestine. This results in malnutrition, vitamine deficiencies, diarrhea, abdominal pain and other symptoms. The therapy consists of a gluten free diet.

Constipation
Constipation is a common problem with up to 25% of children and adolescents affected to some degree. Most can be successfully treated by the pediatrican. In severe cases a consultation with a pediatric gastroenterologist is necessary to rule out an underlying etiology. Our member Beatrice Müller and partners have developed an interactive app PLOP to support patients and parents.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Abdominal pain, digestive disorders but also non-gastrointestinal symptoms food is often suspected as a trigger, without being detectable in allergy diagnostics.

Functional abdominal pain
The most common gastrointestinal complaint in our practice is abdominal pain. Fortunately, in most cases there is no underlying somatic disease. In order to learn coping strategies, it is important to understand the concept of functional abdominal pain. Our members have therefore actively supported the ESPGHAN campaign on functional abdominal pain with numerous activities. To raise awareness, the leaflet What is functional abdominal pain and Alex's story were distributed to doctors and patient organizations.

MR Enterography
With a MR enterography we can assess the small bowel that can not be reached by endoscopy.

Endoscopy
In order to assess the mucosa of the intestinal tract and retrieve very small mucosa samples for further analysis an endoscopy is needed. In our pediatric patients this will be done under sedation by an anesthesist.
